When the regime of Dr. Najibullah fell in 1991, the capital turned into a war zone, as groups fought to fill the power vacuum. Civilians were swept up in the fighting, and many were killed for the ethnicity or forced to flee. They are now asking for those who did the killings to be brought to trial. Fazel Ahmad Yalghuz reports.

A very interadestading artiadcle Jean and one that sent me off to the wee hours lookading at other mateadradial. It is quite sad that this adminadisadtraadtion has tried to sweep all of this under the rug so as not to rufadfle feathaders of those that couldn’t care less. That this will now fall to scholadars and the few remianading invesadtigaadtive reporters left in the world to feradret out and brought into the light is beyond comadpreadhenadsion. A good friend has opined for some time that at some point there would be legal process on some of this but that it would not be done here but maybe in Iraq or the world court and that our efforts to ciradcumadvent or obstruct such would be conaddemadmin in and of itself. Who knows, guess we will just have to wait anda0see.That there were steps taken and moves made by Bremadmer and his cohorts that would sugadgest pretty nefaradiadous intent is not in quesadtion for those are pretty well docaduadmented. It is the nefaradiadous intent that needs to be brought into light. I don’t think we can comadpletly disadcount the eleadments of stuadpidadity, incomadpeadtence and inepiadtude that suradrounded much of this either. None of these eleadments are put forth as an excuse for what tranadspired but they ceradtainly played a part at varadiadous levels. What is most unsetadtling in all of this is the apparadrent disadreadgard for the human facadtors that should have been glaradringly eviaddent to most noradmal peoadple before we ever crossed the berm into Iraq. That it wasn’t is of itself an indictadment. That we see many of those same facadtors at work in this counadtry now is even worse. To some peoadple don’t count. Peoadple, their needs and their aspiadraadtions are eleadments to be negated, disadreadgarded or ignored. Then there is great suradprise when those same peoadple that some would negate, disadreadgard or ignore rise up against those that would treat thema0such.That this will at some point play out baddly here even if at a lower level of vioadlence than in Iraq should suradprise no one. OWS is mearly a preadcuradsor to what will evenadtuadally tranadspire to renorm the process. Then those that sought to gain it all at the expense of the many will agian show their ignoadrance and peradhaps arroadgradnace by being shocked at what hapadpens to them and theirs. I have no pitty for them, their lackadeys or even some of their misadguided supadportaders. The only quesadtions I am left with is when and how this will explode. I used to say I would never live to see it but now I am not so sure. My son’s ceradtainly will and I now think I probadaadbly will. One has to wonadder what the spark willa0be.
